DIY Transformer leather bag pattern with PDF template (A4 & US Letter) and video tutorial. Crossbody base model with changeable flap.
When I created this Transformer leather bag pattern, my idea was simple – one bag, many looks. This crossbody base model is the foundation: a stylish and practical bag with two pockets and a replaceable flap. Thanks to Chicago screws, the flap can be changed in minutes with just a screwdriver. That means no need to sew a new bag every time – I can keep the same body and refresh the style with a new design.
For this base model, I worked with leather 1.6–2 mm (4–5 oz) thick. I chose vegetable tanned leather and dyed it with leather dye to get the color I wanted. Here’s the list of hardware that completes the project:
Rivets – 3 pcs
Chicago screws – 5 pcs
Magnetic purse lock – 1 pc
Buckle – 1 pc
Snap hooks – 2 pcs
Steel D-rings – 2 pcs
The bag strap in the pattern is 2.5 cm (0.98 in.) wide, making it comfortable and durable for daily wear.
The finished crossbody bag has dimensions that are compact yet useful:
Height – 22 cm (8.66 in.)
Width – 20 cm (7.87 in.)
Depth – 5.5 cm (2.16 in.)
It’s the perfect everyday companion – enough room for essentials like a phone, wallet, and keys, while keeping a slim profile.

The biggest advantage of this design is flexibility. Once the base model is made, you don’t need to start from scratch again. You can simply change the flap and enjoy a new style without spending extra leather or hours of work. It’s a system that grows with you.
For me, working with leather is about creativity. That’s why I wanted this project to also be a DIY leather bag template that encourages experimentation. You can use classic leather for an elegant result, try bold colors, or decorate with stamping and carving. Every bag becomes a one-of-a-kind piece.
This leather crossbody bag pattern is practical for everyday life. The bag works well for casual city walks, stylish evenings out, or even as a meaningful handmade gift. And because it comes as a printable bag pattern PDF, you can easily print the templates at home and start crafting right away.
Even if you’re looking for a handmade leather bag tutorial, this pattern gives you the guidance you need. The included video explains each step clearly, making the process smooth and enjoyable.
