Looking for a pattern that stands out? Aiko is a leather bag template with a playful dog face peeking from the front panel — perfect for your next handmade project.
This leather bag pattern is one of my most playful and charming designs. Inspired by the personality of a curious and mischievous dog, the Aiko handbag features a unique front panel where a dog’s face peeks out of the pocket. The design allows you to customize how much of the face is visible: you can show the whole face, cover half so it looks like the dog is playfully hiding, or reveal just the nose for a subtle and cheeky look.
Sized at 26 cm (10.24 in.) wide, 26 cm (10.24 in.) high, and 10 cm (3.94 in.) deep, this bag is practical for daily use. It features a secure zippered pocket on the back panel, plus an interior zip pocket for valuables and an open pocket for quick access items. Whether you’re heading to work, meeting friends, or running errands, this leather handbag with dog design is the perfect mix of function and personality.
To make this bag, you will need approximately 0.55 m² (851 in²) of leather.
I used medium-stiff vegetable-tanned leather, 1.2–1.6 mm (3–4 oz).
You will also need:
Rivets – 7 pcs
Chicago screws – 2 pcs
Steel D-rings 2.5 cm (1 inch) – 3 pcs
Carabiners 2.5 cm (1 inch) – 3 pcs
Zipper #5 ≈ 50 cm (20 inches) – 1 pc
Jeans zippers #4, 18 cm (7.1 inches) – 2 pcs

Metal rings Ø10 mm (0.39 inches) – 2 pcs

A separate file contains dimensions for strap sliders and loops for the most popular widths: 30 mm (1.18″), 35 mm (1.38″), 38 mm (1.5″), 40 mm (1.57″), and 50 mm (2″)

The leather dog face bag pattern offers endless possibilities for personalization. Try contrasting leather colors for the bag and the dog’s face, or experiment with decorative stitching to make the design truly your own. You could even create seasonal versions — bright tones for summer, warm earthy shades for autumn.
As a leather shoulder bag template, this pattern can also be adapted to fit different strap lengths, hardware styles, or interior layouts. And because it’s part of my dog-inspired designs, you can pair it with matching accessories like charms or keychains for a complete set.
