Materials you’ll need

Both car models are designed to be made from vegetable-tanned leather. For the retro car, use leather 1.4–2 mm (3.5–5 oz). The steampunk version works well with Crazy Horse leather 1.4–1.6 mm. For headlights, lighter or undyed vegetable-tanned leather 1.4–1.6 mm is best.

Each car requires different hardware:

• Retro car: Rivets 8 pcs, knob screw rivets 3 pcs, threaded rods (3.5–4 mm, length 10.5 cm – 2 pcs), and hex or cap nuts.

• Steampunk car: Rivets 38 pcs, knob screw rivets 9 pcs, curved screw spikes 5 pcs, screw spikes 9 pcs, steampunk gears and clock wheels, threaded rods (11 cm – 2 pcs), and hex or cap nuts.

Hardware is easy to source in local stores, and rods can be cut from 1-meter pieces.

Finished sizes

Both cars measure about 25 cm (9.8 inches) in length and 9.5 cm (3.7 inches) in width, making them perfect for decorative display or as functional leather jewelry boxes.
